Our Neighbors Need Us: 2,000 Meals by November 15th
I rallied in October. I voted today. I've watched thousands of Americans refuse to be helpless - showing up in streets, at polling places, in their communities.
Now it's time to show up for our neighbors.
Here's what I know: In five days, on November 1st, 176,000 of our Alameda County neighbors will lose their food assistance. One in nine residents. Forty percent are children.
I know firsthand what it is like to be a kid facing food insecurity -- food stamp grocery runs, near-empty pantries, seeing parents make tough sacrifices to make their kids didn't go hungry . No child should know that fear. No parent should carry that weight.
OUR GOVERNMENT HAS SHUT DOWN. SNAP BENEFITS HAVE STOPPED.
The choice our leaders have made in Washington will empty the stomachs of children and families in America and here in the Bay Area.
We cannot fix Washington right now, but we can help control what happens in our community.
Today felt compelled I called the Alameda County Community Food Bank and asked them what helps most. Their answer: Direct donations. One dollar provides two meals.
So here's what we're going to do:
✅ We will raise $1,000 by November 15th. That's 2,000 meals and 2,000 times someone doesn't go to bed hungry.
✅ We will volunteer together at Scouting for Food on November 15th.
✅ We will show our neighbors they are not alone.
We rallied in October. We are voting on Prop 50 now. Tomorrow, we help our neighbors not go hungry.
No amount too small. No effort too minor.
We are not helpless. Let's prove it. 🇺🇸💪🏽💫
