For my birthday, I'm asking for donations to my local food bank instead of gifts. Last month I saw a powerful performance called, "Stuffed" at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival about food banks as a vital lifeline for people in poverty. We heard devastating verbatims from food bank volunteers while watching performers run around the stage putting out fires, symbolizing the never-ending crises. Our systems are badly broken and food banks provide much-needed food to our neighbors in need. 
 

Over half a million meals a week

All year, Alameda County Community Food Bank serves an immense need. One in four Alameda County residents experience food insecurity, and the food bank distributes enough food for more than half a million meals each week.

The food bank purchases over half the food it distributes and it simply can't meet demand without our support.
